Costume interpretation

Teuravuoma, the largest expanse of Aapa mire in Finland

Do

At Teuravuoma an ERDF funded project is reconstructing 100 year old pathways around the bog and using costume interpretation to interpret local and generic peatland stories. The costume interpretation is provided by Will O'the Wisp of Lapland – a co-operative of seven people all trained in peatland heritage and drama. The Co-operative doesn't receive any funding and relies on the determination of individuals.

The Finnish people don't value mires highly and are somewhat suspicious of them. However, the audience for this costume interpretation is steadily growing. . The Co-operative is promoted through its website and through tour companies. The audience for this interpretation has so far been entirely domestic. The Co-operative hopes to coordinate a contract with a network of sites to ensure sufficient workload to make the project self-sustaining.
