Off-site peatland promotion: peatland film locations
Case study
Cool Digi-Idol, Co. Offaly, Ireland
With help from Offaly Leader+ and the Kilcormac Development Association, a popular project that used cutaway peatlands as film locations was run in Co. Offaly in 2005. Called ‘Cool Digi-Idol’ this involved teenage pupils from local schools in composing songs, recording their music, then choreographing and performing the material for a DVD shot largely in the county’s peatlands.
Schedule
- Monday: composition of music and lyrics
- Tuesday: recording of music
- Wednesday: Video storyboard creation
- Thursday: choreography
- Friday: video shoot on location in Lough Boora Parklands and elsewhere (Kilmorac, Daingean, Shannonbridge and Edenderry)
Output
Teenagers very committed to project and able to visit peatlands in an unusual context. Public performances of material given high profile by Irish media. DVD produced with cutway peatlands as prominent backdrop/dance-floor for many sequences.
