Metsähallitus installed the trail to the site. The meadow cottage was almost ready and meadow barn ready by the start of the winter in 2006. The Old-style woodshed and toilet were half ready at this stage. Construction works has stopped over the winter season.
The Vikajärvi Village Association did voluntary work on the site, helping with construction work. In addition to doing a peat survey (see above) the Geological Survey of Finland provided signs to the site, giving information about peat.
Licensed boat handler course
A training course for boat handlers course was held from
16th -17th December 2005 and 17th -
19th January 2006. The aim of the course was
to train people to a sufficient standard to have a
license to be a boat handler, who can transport tourists on the
river. The intention is for these services to be offered to
safari companies operating in the Arctic Circle Hiking
Area (in pilot project site). The course included a
National Board of Navigation's obligatory theory lecture
and obligatory theory and practise lectures on first aid
given by Rovaniemi's Red Cross. Fifty people participated
in these educational courses.
