Seats & Picnic Tables : Perches
General Guidance | Perches | Seats | Picnic Tables| Design List
A perch is a simple, informal structure providing a leaning/semi-seated resting point along a path.
Perch seats should preferably be between 550mm and 750mm high, with the ideal option being the installation of a number of perches at various heights across this range. The higher perches can be especially useful to elderly and less mobile people who may have difficulty in rising from lower seat heights. Information Sheets 7. 1 and 7. 2 provide specifications for two basic types of timber perch. However, provided that they meet these basic performance requirements, perches offer considerable scope to improvise in the use of designs, materials and construction techniques, possibly linked, for example, to local historical or architectural themes.
